On Thursday we went by train to visit the other two towns, Manarola and
Riomaggiore. These again are very pretty places with houses tiered up the
mountainside, all looking out to the beautiful sea. Neither of the towns have
beaches, but the swimmers and sunbathers lie out on the rocks and enjoy the
gorgeous clear water.

Manarola on the Rocks |
Some swimmers are a little more adventurous, climbing the cliffs to dive off.
I just sat on the rocks and let the vacation come to me this time. I also made friends with some of the "locals" :)

On Friday we dragged the kids off the beach to at least see some of the other towns. We came again to Riomaggiore, this time by ferry. It was a delightful way to visit the area. Saturday is a travelling day. We got a deal on tickets to Firenza (Florence.) It was just a special "two for one" that the railway was offering. We catch one train to Pisa, where we change trains to Firenza. We'll be staying at a small hotel near the centre of the city, which we booked again on a special before we left. I am told that they have wifi!
Posting again soon.

Another enticing location. The coast is so very different from what I've experienced (Southeastern Atlantic, Gulf and Caribbean). It is almost haunting/scary and I sure wouldn't dive in. Bet the kids would though!
ReplyDeleteIt is such a great adventure to be sharing with us, thank you for the updates. I love visiting little towns and seeing how the locals live.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful location! I love your photos!
ReplyDeleteWas the water cold? That's always my question. I don't like it cold at all. And yet I dream of places with running water often. Sometimes I even get in the water in my dreams. Those are the best, but the others are beautiful, like Rionaggiore.
ReplyDeleteCarol, what lovely photos! It looks like you're having a wonderful time!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love Tuscany
